King Mountain is always a fantastic area to fly, right? Now there is another great reason to visit the Lost River Valley. King Mountain Gliders (KMG) proudly announces its Grand Opening. The "Spring Fling at King", is our way of welcoming the flying season and at the same time introducing you to the KMG Store. Festivities for the "Spring Fling at King" are focused around fun and exciting events for everyone, not just pilots. Read below for exact details. We hope you decide to drop by the store and enjoy some the following events. Registration/Pilots Meeting: May 25, 2002, 7:00am, at the KMG Store, registration begins. Participant must register at KMG Store even if preliminary registration was done via e-mail or regular mail. 10:00am, every morning, pilots' meeting begins. Guidelines: These guidelines apply to paragliding pilots, hang gliding pilots, drivers, and guest who have registered and/or participate in the "Spring Fling at King." Participants must follow these guidelines for eligibility of each prize category. Participant's paper work (sign up at the KMG Store) MUST be completed before any accumulation of points. Categories: The following categories are cumulative events assigned point values. Each individual category in addition to combined categories may receive winners as deemed appropriate by the Event Director! The Event Director may add other categories at anytime. Open XC- Each glider type, i.e., rigid, topless, king posted, single surface, paragliders and tandems have open XC. Scoring will be base on actual miles, straight-line distance. Points will be based on the actual miles flown. 1 mile = 1 point. No handicap at his time. All flights submitted for Open XC must end before official sunset. Farthest flight wins. The Event Director will have final authority if any disputes arise. Line Racing- From predetermined Point A (start gate) to predetermined Point B (finish gate). Each participating pilot will receive a pilot number during registration or provide the recognizable competition number on the glider. The pilot MUST SHOUT, even if the number is on the glider to a start gate time recorder, (the person with the start watch/clipboard). This action controls the elevation of pilot in reference to start gate. There will be no limit as to number of starts a pilot may take. However, try to start and finish simultaneously as to lessen the confusion on the time recorders and you will get more points. Fastest time wins. Beware of other gliders during race. Rule of the Ridge always apply, even while racing. Time recorders will not release start/finish times, DON'T ASK. The Event Director will have final authority on any disputes. Longest Flight Duration: Any glider category can win this event. Pilot must launch after official sunrise from any site in the King Mountain area and land before official sunset. Longest flight wins. Event Director has final authority over all disputes. Additional Events- Additional Events are not outlined here in the guidelines. See the Score Sheet for complete details. The "Additional Events" are the key or "handicap" for balancing out the scoring field. Each participant's score sheet lists additional events. These events are for everyone that accompanies the pilot too. Each Additional Event has an assigned point value. Pilots may not combine with other pilots to accumulate scores or increase individual scores. However, drivers, and other guest may combine points to help one pilot. Each person is responsible for their own completion of as many events as possible in order to accumulate the most points. Drives will gain extra points for shuttling pilots to and from launch and for retrieving pilots. Located on participant score sheet is a place to add other events you ACTUALLY participate in during the "Spring Fling at King". You will receive several sheets during registration and blank score sheets will be available near the main KMG Store front door. Score Sheets: Value for each event will be indication on score sheet. Score sheets should be turned in at the end of each day. Pilots, drivers, and guest can add points on one score sheet but names and specific events must be cauterized, who did what, where. Entry Fees: Each participant must pay a registration/entry of $20.00. This fee entitles participant to: one pig roast dinner, Awards/Prizes for each category awarded by Event Director participant may win, plus all the fun one could possibly stand. Drivers pay only $5.00 and each additional individual or guest pays $5.00 for dinner only. The $5.00 will not be added to the Awards total. Awards/Prizes: One half (1/2) of entry fees ($10.00) will be rolled over in to monetary awards for winning categories awarded by Event Director. Remember Event Director may combine event categories at anytime. That's right, basically cash for flying and having fun! The monetary value of each category will be determined by number of entry fees paid divided by each category. Additional prizes, recognitions, and drawings will also take place everyday. Dinner: Enough food for everyone! Main course, open pit roasted pig, large baked potatoes; roasted corn in mass quantities will be served Saturday night, 8:00pm at the KMG Store. RSVP Mandatory no wake ins. Parking at Launch: As with any other meet, parking will be very limited around launch areas. Truck pooling is highly recommended. Each pilot must drop equipment at upper launch and immediately move their vehicle to the parking area between the upper and lower launches. Lower launch is an open area. Launch window: We are all courteous and safety conscious pilots, right? Therefore, no restrictions at launch except for parking at this time for the "Spring Fling at King".
