Feb. 15-17: AeroTowing at Panoche Vly.

When:     Sat-Mon, Feb. 15,16,17 2003
Where:   Panoche Valley, west of interstate 5, about 35 miles south of Hwy 152 (Pacheco Pass/San Luis Reservoir)
Cost:      $30 plus $10 per 1000 ft. of tow (2000ft. tow=$20)

From Santa Rosa, it's about 220 miles, 6.5 hrs. to the airfield in Panoche Valley.
Ben Rogers is trying to put this together. Paul Splan (Splan Air (559)449-0214) will be the tow pilot, using a trike.
If the weekend of 2/15-17 doesn't work, we'll try the following weekend 2/22-23.
There is a resort, Mercey Hot Springs, next to the airstrip, with camping, rooms, hottub. Check info site for $$.

March 22-30: Spring Fly-in at Tollhouse

When:     Sat, 3/22/2003 to Sun, 3/30/2003
Where:   Tollhouse, east of Fresno.

Dinner served 3/22 & 3/30.
$100 for first "hangie" to make it from launch to landing, via turnpoint, in under 1.5 min.

April 12 - 18: Flytec Championships

When:     Sat, 4/12 thru Fri, 4/18/2003.
Where:   Quest Air Flight Park, Groveland Florida.
Cost:      Entry fee is $299.    Fill out a registration form and send it in ASAP.

This is not an official club trip, but some members are going.
The Flytec Championship stands to, once again, be the premier U.S. contest this year.   The meet will have full USHGA and CIVL sanctioning, prize and award classes for top, up-and-coming, and first time competitors.   The Quest Air Team will provide the most efficient launching in aerotow competition.    If you're chasing WRPS points, you'll need to have an FAI sporting license.   You must have your aerotow signoff.
Mandatory Pilot meeting Friday, 4/11 at 5:00PM.   First contest day is Saturday.

April 20 - 26: Wallaby Open 2003

When:     Sun., 4/20 thru Sat., 4/26/2003.
Where:   Wallaby Ranch, Florida.
Cost:      Entry fee is $400, 1/2 due at registration.

May 10: Cinco de Mayo

When:     Saturday 5/3/2002
Where:   Mt. St. Helena, near Calistoga.
Cost:      $20.

This Cinco de Mayo party has become an annual event. This is our fifth year now. It started as our way of saying Thank You to the owners of the properties we land on, and that is still its main purpose. It is also a great first-event-of-the-season to get our collective flying juices flowing.

May 17 - 18: Coyote Howl, Coulterville

When: Sat, Sun..
Where: Lake McClure, near Coulterville, in Gold Country.
Cost: $25 early registration. $35 there.

This is not an official club trip, but some members are going.
Coulterville puts on a Coyote Howl every year, with a howling contest, flea market, arts & crafts, music, gunfighter skits, horseshoe tournament AND a HG fly-in.
The Coyote Howl events take place on Saturday from 9AM - 5PM in Coulterville. The Hang Gliding takes place both Sat. & Sun. at the lake, about 10 minutes from town.
Events include: Speed Gliding; duration; XC. Demo Gliders will be there.

May 24 - 26: King Mt. Spring Fling

Where:   Moore, Idaho.

26TH (or so?) ANNUAL STARTHISTLE FLY-IN
MAY 25, 26 AND 27, 2002
WOODRAT MOUNTAIN, RUCH, OR
Events will include a BBQ dinner, door prizes, contests, a raffle, and some great flying! Woodrat is known for its consistently good thermaling conditions. Flights of over twenty miles have already been made this year.
Sign up will start at 9am on Saturday Morning in the LZ with a pilot briefing at 10am.
Entry fee of $20, plus $5 annual site insurance donation (if not already paid) includes Competition, Dinner and a chance at the Door Prizes (2 GPS units). Part of the proceeds from this event are donated to the Ruch community (fire dept, search & rescue, library) on behalf of the Hunter family (our LZ owners). What a Great Deal!
Fun/Friendly Competition will be held for both HG and PG with awards for Duration, Distance, Altitude and Spot Landing. Break some local records!
BBQ with all the fixins and beverages will be held in the LZ, 6 to 8pm on Saturday night. We only hire the best chefs here!
Our Raffle and Contest prizes will include products from all of the big manufacturers and importers. Last year's prizes included GPS's, stuff bags, radio harnesses, hook knives, t-shirts, wind-meters, helmet, gloves, etc. Other great raffle items you will just have to come to see!
Camping area is at Cantrell Buckely Park, just 5 minutes from LZ. The club has reserved the group camping area. There are lots of camping sites and several RV slots. Warm showers also! Camping fee of $4/family, per night, collected at registration.
Mt. biking, hiking, shopping, and even a lion sanctuary just minutes away...for non-flying family members! Or take that long-deserved tandem flight! Tandem instructors will be available.
This Year we will be hosting a special guest in the paragliding world, Red Bull-sponsored acrobatic pilot Chris Santacroce from Team Super Fly of Salt Lake City. Chris will be out west here to represent the Ozone, Firebird, and Gin product lines... as well as just enjoying himself, escaping the big city in favor of our beautiful May southern Oregon flying and great company that we always are.
Woodrat Mountain is a USHGA insured site. It requires P3/H3 or P2/H2 with instructor sign off, a signed site waiver and USHGA membership. Motorized gliders are not allowed to use the main LZ. Please read the site rules carefully before launching. A copy is posted at the LZ. Instructors available for appropriate sign-off's.

Owens Valley Weekends

When:     All Summer Long
Where:   Owens Valley, Calif.
Cost:      $10 donation each day you set up to fly, for the Walts Point Porta Potty.

Several club pilots will be trying to get down to the Owens on weekend trips all summer long. If you want to go, either join up with someone on a scheduled weekend, or schedule a weekend yourself. Just let Ernie Camacho know and he'll update this calendar.
The Owens is 9 hrs away. Peter Lawrence, for one, likes to leave his home in San Jose Friday around noon, getting to Lone Pine 7 hrs. later. He flys Sat. & Sun., then drives back home, getting in around 2AM or so, depending on how far he flew.
Overnight accomodations are either motel-ing in Lone Pine, or camping at Tuttle Creek campground, on the way up to launch.

    The premier cross country site in the world - Zapata, Texas, will host the 4th annual - 2003 World Record Encampment.
    Two consecutive 2-week sessions will run from June 8 to July 7 (Note: dates have changed. Ed).
    Flex, rigid, paragliders and ul/sailplanes will attempt to break personal and world records.

    June 20 - 22: Region 2 Regionals

    When:     Fri, Sat, Sun.
    Where:   Carson City, Nevada.
    Cost:      $100.   After 5/1, $125.   Fill out a registration form and send it in ASAP.

    The contest will be open to any qualified pilot from any region or country.   The tasks will be called each day and they will consist of a timed race to goal.   The winner of each day will receive 2000 points.   The other pilots will receive percentages of 2000 points based on their relative times for each day.
    Contestants will receive a T-shirt and admission to the Saturday Night Dinner and party.   Trophies will be awarded to the top five finishers at an awards party Sunday.   Pilots will meet each morning at 9:00AM at Washoe State Park.

    June 25 - 29: King Mt. Meet

    When:     The meet is Wed. thru Sun.   Several SW'ers will be leaving on various days, up to a week before, to get in some flying before the meet.   Most folks will be returning Mon. after the meet.
    Where:   Moore, Idaho, near Arco.
    Cost:      $50 to enter the competition: ($25 to join the club (for insurance) and $25 for the T-shirt and other goodies).   Saturday night BBQ ($10) & Team competition ($5) are extra.

    You submit your best 3 flights during the 5 day period.   This way you can fly all 5 days, just the last 3 weekend days, or skip a day or two in the middle.  This will help with days called because of weather.
    We expect another big SW showing this year.   You won't want to miss it!
    King Mt. is 14 hrs (800 miles) away.
    To be safe, you'll want to bring oxygen.   Valley floor is 5K, Mt. tops are 11K, heights to 18K are common, as are distances to 100mi. & beyond!
    You'll also want to bring a GPS and 2 meter radio (of course you'll be licensed).

    July 12 - 18: Sierra Nevada Safari

    Tired of flying the same old sites? Come join the Sierra Nevada Hang Gliding Association (SNHGA) in a membership drive July 12-18 and explore Nevada. Fly off of Slide or McClellan on Saturday into the great wide open with a group of pilots to fly old, little used sites and to explore new sites. Cost $20.00 for SNHGA membership. SNHGA members free. Platform launch available.
    RECOMMEND: Hang III+, XC, TUR, ratings. 4wd, GPS, ham radio, survival gear, one spare tire minimum. 80% Nevada Government owned.
    Pilots wishing to platform launch tow during the Safari please call Bruce Rymes @ 530.251.5874 for information regarding required ratings and equipment. A tow clinic will be held on the 2 days preceeding the Safari for pilots wishing to add a platform launch signoff to their ratings.
